Electrical Troubleshooting & Repair in San Jose
Breaker that keeps tripping? Dead outlets, flickering lights, or a panel that buzzes? We find the actual cause, explain it in plain language, and give you the price before we start.
What we troubleshoot
Most calls we get are one of these. If yours is not on the list, call anyway — diagnostics are what we do.
Breaker keeps tripping
Overloaded circuit, a failing breaker, a shared neutral, or a genuine fault. We isolate the circuit instead of just resetting it.
Dead outlets or half the house out
Often an upstream GFCI, a loose backstab connection, or a lost leg from the panel. We trace it back to the source.
Flickering or dimming lights
Loose neutrals and failing connections cause this, and they are a fire risk. Worth looking at sooner rather than later.
Burning smell, scorch marks, buzzing panel
Stop using the circuit and call us. Heat and sound at a panel or receptacle means something is failing right now.
GFCI or AFCI that will not reset
Sometimes the device, sometimes a real ground fault, sometimes a shared circuit. We test rather than guess.
EV charger tripping or charging slowly
Breaker sizing, wire gauge, load management settings, or a loose termination at the charger.
Solar system not reporting
Non-reporting microinverters, misconfigured current sensors, dead gateways, and comms drops. This is our specialty.
Adding circuits, subpanels, or capacity
New 240V circuits for tools, HVAC, hot tubs, or a subpanel for a shop or ADU, done to code and inspected.
Old wiring and aluminum branch circuits
Cloth wiring, ungrounded two-prong outlets, and aluminum branch circuits assessed and corrected properly.

Questions we get asked
How soon can you come out?
We serve San Jose and the greater Bay Area Monday through Saturday, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Call or text (408) 702-0480 and we will tell you honestly when we can be there. Urgent safety issues get priority.
Do you charge for the diagnostic visit?
Yes, troubleshooting is billed as a service call, because finding the cause is the work. You will know the cost before we come out, and you get the findings and a repair price before any repair begins.
My breaker trips every few days. Is that actually a problem?
Yes. A breaker is a safety device, and one that trips repeatedly is either protecting you from a real fault or is itself failing. Repeatedly resetting it is not a fix and can be dangerous.
Do you work on solar and battery systems too?
Yes. Solar and battery storage is our main business, so non-reporting inverters, monitoring dropouts, current sensor problems, and Powerwall backup issues are all normal work for us.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. Starlight Energy is a licensed and insured California contractor, CSLB #1132072.
Do you pull permits?
Yes, when the work requires it. Panel upgrades, new circuits, subpanels, and service changes get permitted and inspected.
